World wide PLC MarketFrost & Sullivan has published in Januari 1995 a new study on the PLC market. It is called "World programmable logic controller markets: increasing functionality promises continued growth" and is available at Frost & Sullivan for $2995.According to Frost & Sullivan, the world-wide PLC-market revenues will grow from 4.2 billion.USD in 1993 to 8.6 billion in the year 2000. This means a compound annual growth rate, CAGR, of 10.8%. If measured in the number of units, there is an increase expected from 8 million units in 1993 to approximately 18 million units in 2000. This equals a CAGR of approximately 12.3%, meaning that the growth in units will be higher than the groth in revenues. The average price per unit will increase 14% in total over the same period, from $1814 to $2067. One of the reasons for the difference in growth between revenues and units is the forecast that the small PLCs, 30% of the market revenues in 1993, will increase to 35% in 2000, while the revenues for medium and large PLCs will dip from 30% to 26% and 16% to 9% respectively, over said period. Fault tolerant PLCs will increase form 2% share till 5%. The increased importance of software is also reflected in the figures: software revenues are expected to increase from 9 till 12% over the same period. The main growth industries mentioned are the automotive, food and beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, metal, pulp and paper, wastewater management, medical and electronics. The ranking in 1992/1993 with respect to revenues are:
