1. Third edition of IEC 61131-3 is approved as International Standard

 

This is to inform you that as of the closing date of January 18, 2013, the third edition of IEC 61131-3 – Programming Languages, version FDIS (Final Draft International Standard) of 2012 is approved as International Standard. This means that the 3rd edition is now official and will become available as International Standard at www.IEC.ch very soon.

 

The third edition has a long list of changes and enhancements. We will inform you on this in a separate overview.

2. Meet us at SIAF 2013, Guangzhou, China, March 4-6

 

For the first time PLCopen will have a booth at the SIAF in Guangzhou. You will find us in Hall 3 / A183.

 

Launched in 2010, as an international SPS/IPC/Drives event, SPS - Industrial Automation fair Guangzhou (SIAF) is gaining a reputation for being the most important international trade fair in Asia for industrial automation solutions. SIAF offers a platform for motion control product manufacturers in the blooming South China market to meet the users in machine tools, textile, rubber & plastics, printing, packaging and labelling machinery.

You will find more information on the SIAF website.

 

On the first day of this event, March 4 there will be a conference “Intelligent Manufacturing with PLCopen worldwide Technologies”, as organized by PLCopen. This conference will give an excellent overview on how PLCopen and its members can help users to be more effective in their market. 

The conference starts at 09:30 on March 4 and the program will be available on our website soon.

Venue of the conference: Open Seminar Area of Hall 3.2

 

In addition we are also planning an interactive PLCopen Motion Control – Live seminar on March 6. PLCopen will do a short introduction on Motion Control and show one or two basic examples (e.g. for labelling) and then the attendees can continue live on the different systems from the different suppliers that are spread around the room. Among the participating companies will be 3S-Smart Software Solutions, KW-Software, Beckhoff and the Hangzhou Dianzi University. Experts from these companies are available to respond to your questions during the whole seminar. 

Due to limited space, you need to pre-register for this seminar and email us your questions upfront via our website. Deadline for registration: March 1.

3. Safety certification for 3S-Smart Software Solutions

 

3S- Smart Software Solutions has been awarded the PLCopen Safety Certificate for their product CODESYS Safety.

4. PLCopen Safety Functionality for Presses – Reminder

 

In our newsletter of December 2012 we announced the release of a new PLCopen Safety specification for Presses, which is available as version 0.99 – Release for Comments on our website.

 

This specification is an addition to the existing safety standard as provided by PLCopen and contains a general overview of the implementation of safety around presses, coupled to twelve specific function blocks. Due to the wide application area of presses, the function blocks include the use of electrical motors and valves control for hydraulics.

 

If you are a potential user, please check this document and give us your feedback by March 29, 2013 latest.

5. PLCopen updates the User Guidelines for Motion Control

 

With the update and integration of the first parts of the PLCopen specifications on Motion Control, the third part with the User Guidelines needed to reflect the new features as well as a general improvement.

 

The User Guidelines contain easy-to-understand application examples and show how to create user-derived function blocks to add to a company specific library, improving the reusability of the application programs. These examples help the user to better understand the PLCopen Motion Control functionality and to get started with their first application programs. Also it can be used for teaching.

This document is released as version 2.0 in February 2013.

PLCopen is open for new examples of you to add to future releases of this specification.

 

With this new release, the set of PLCopen Motion Control Specifications consist of the following cooperating parts:

 

Part 1 - with the basic functionalities

Part 2 - being integrated in Part 1

Part 3 - the update part with the user guidelines

Part 4 - for coordinated motion

Part 5 - with the homing procedures

Part 6 - with additional functionalities for hydraulics

 

All the PLCopen Motion Control specifications are available for download from the PLCopen website www.PLCopen.org under section ‘TC2 – Motion Control’.
