This book introduces software engineering methods for the development of control code for industrial automated systems. The target systems considered in this book are those based on Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) or the more recent Soft Logic. The proposed approach leads to a correct and effective use of the IEC 61131-3 standard programming environment, including the languages.
'IEC 61131-3 Programming Methodology' is of valuable use for Industrial Automation Software Engineers and Programmers since it fully describes the structure and role of each of the five programming languages defined by the IEC 61131-3 Standard. Moreover, it is a good way to widen your knowledge of PLC software and real time systems.
It includes a demo CD-ROM 61131-3 workbench based on

| The PLC is the device at the heart of most automated control systems and instrumentation in history. Many different computer languages have been used to write these programs in the past, with the result that PLCs from different manufacturers are generally incompatible, vastly increasing the difficulty of operating and maintaining the devices, and making linked application systems extremely complex. The standards body IEC (International Electro technical Commission, a sister body to ISO) published standard IEC 61131-3 in December 1993 in order to progress towards an "open system" (i.e. compatible) environment. This book acts as a user guide and tutorial to the IEC 61131-3 standard; it accurately describes the languages and concepts, and interprets its meaning for practical implementation and application of the languages.

The acceptance of the standard IEC 1131 for programming of industrial automation systems is one of the most important events since the invention of the programmable controller itself. The previous Babylonian variety of languages in industrial automation will come to an end, only the languages of the standard will remain. The standard develops the proven features of previous languages using modern knowledge of information science. This book explains the different programming languages of the standard (IL, LD, FBD, SFC, ST) both for vendors and users of automation systems. It introduces them systematically using numerous examples.
But the book doesn't restrict itself to the programming of a single PLC or to today's state of standardization: it goes via open communication to the vision of programming closely connected heterogeneous automation systems, for which the technical basis is available even now. It should encourage the potential users of such systems to demand them from the vendors.

IEC 61131 - for what? is not yet another textbook about PLC programming languages, but it shows how this whole set of six parts of the IEC 61131 series came into existence and for what it can be used in practice. It explains as well as the technical contents and the background of this standardisation.
Part 1 of the standard defines the basic terms of the Programmable Controllers. Part 2 defines the equipment requirements and tests for the electrical and mechanical safety and the EMC. In the context of the EU regulations this part gains an increasing impact as a so called Listed Standard. Part 3 describes the programming languages. Part 4 gives guidelines for the user of programmable controllers. Part 5 defines the communications of the programmable controller with other controllers. Part 7 will define the application of Fuzzy Control in the programmable controlles.
The autors of this book are in a decisive rôle in the development of this standard. They are all co-authors of the individual parts of IEC 61131. Their insider know-how permits the competent report about the creation and the background of the parts. They also give their critical look on the possible applications and future developments of the standard.
The intended audience of this book encompasses the designer of hardware and software of the programmable controllers, the application programmer and the maintainance expert.
The CD-ROM contains demo versions of Simatic Step7, Multiprog wt and Fuzzy Control.

SoftLogic: Overcoming Funnel Vision' has as subtitle: How and why IEC 1131 based SoftLogic frees the enterprise to become agile and profitable'. The author is Dennis E. Wisnosky, founder of Wizdom Controls, and with his experience he takes you for a journey through history. Starting at the well-known control hierarchy triangle, he shows the obstacles and how to remove them with a SoftLogic based control. After a short introduction on IEC 61131-3, its implementation on PCs, and some examples, he discuss the world of standards and the skepticism in the US. He maps this to the different projects running all over the world, and gives his in-depth view on them.
This book is not intended to give a course on IEC 61131-3. It show Dennis' light on the ( r-) evolution going on within the industrial control market. Anyone who has an hour to spend at a rainy afternoon is advised to read this book, and get something out of that time.

Kurzbeschreibung

The book is oriented to beginners. Chapter 1
briefly describes PLC base conceptions, typical application
areas, hardware model and a working cycle definition. Chapters
2 and 3 introduce IEC 61131 standards and most known
programming systems: runtimes specific, editing and debugging
tools. The oher chapters (4-9) describe IEC 61131-3 languages,
data types and standard components.
The text is illustrated with numerous practical examples with
detailed explanations of programming methodology and tricks. A
reader could understand not only, which programming
construction he could use, but also analyze alternatives and
how to select most effective solutions.
Among the programming examples: pulse generator (LD),
sequential time controlled application (LD, SFC), combination
lock (LD), integer division with a symmetrical rounding (ST),
random generator (ST), average and median filters (ST), fast
FIFo, PDM etc. All examples made and tested in CoDeSys V2.3

Programmerstellung hin verlagert. Der SPS-Anwender such umso
mehr Anregungen, Detaillösungen oder auch fertige Makros, die
sich unproblematisch zu einer Gesamtlösung (Anlage) fügen
lassen. Diesen Forderungen wird dieses Buch in eindrucksvoller
Weise gerecht. Dabei verwendet das Buch konsequent Syntax und
Semantik (Sprackstruktur) nach IEC 611331-3. |
